Keepin' it G ain't Nothin'

Video for Jay Rock's first single off of his Strange Debut "Follow Me Home" is about to leave the building tomorrow for our friends at MTV. Some videos are easier than others--this one has definitely been in the "other" category, but it's turning out amazing. Can't wait to see the reaction...very different than our Tech vids of late.

Look for it soon on a television near you...

Motion Control Tips

Biggie once said, "If you don't know, now you know." Kinda how I feel about our first big motion control job. Here's a partial list of what we learned:

  1. Motion control is 70% art and 30% math. But if you screw up the 30%, you're in for a long day. Fortunately we had the best in the biz (Les Bernstein) helping us out.
  2. Much like any other specialized production, expect it to take at least twice as long as you'd expect. If we were to do the same task for an agency client, I'd budget five days, not three.
  3. The easier it seems, the harder it will be.
  4. Plan on either booking a half-day for green reshoots, or thinking on the fly when stuff doesn't work out perfectly.
  5. There is no corner cutting.
  6. Plan on losing your mind at one point in the process. You won't be judged for losing it, only in how well (and quickly) you can get it back.
  7. With ambition comes exhaustion

The final point is my favorite. Adam, our tech from LA went through the same process that damn near everybody from a coast goes through when working with us. He said something along the lines of "at first I thought you guys were fucking crazy to try this, then I thought you were just slightly overly ambitious, but now I get it. This thing is gonna be badass." I guess neither he nor Les had ever seen anyone plan to do as much comping and scaling as we shot in the latter part of the week... it was a metric shit-ton of work, but based on the rough comps I'm seeing, it will be worth it. I can't wait to show it to you all in a month or so.
