Why I Love LA

uploads/blog/general/la.jpg

This is not a riff on Curtis' Bulletproof presentation. I have an honest-to-God deep down devotion to the city of Los Angeles. There is no other city in the world devoted to nothing more than providing entertainment to the masses. And don't say New York. New York is an incredible place, but if you take the entertainment work out of New York (even the advertising work), that city still survives just fine. Not so LA. Without the arts, LA is just an orange grove in dusty, hot farm country. And that is a beautiful thing. Its singularity of purpose makes me love it even more. Everyone there is an actor, a writer, a director, an editor, an artist, a musician, a waiter, or, God forbid, an agent. But together they make up the most eclectic, neurotic, ambitious, and enjoyable collection of humans on earth, and for that I will eternally be grateful.

On a side note--
When I was out there, I had the opportunity to meet up with several new and long-time friends of L9, and this is what they are liking these days (besides us of course):

  1. School of Seven Bells, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros (I'm actually listening to it now), and James Vincent McMorrow are all on Vagrant and all are great listens.

  2. From Prospect Park, check out Jenny O. (I must have listened to her track Well OK Honey 30 times when I was out there), Barcelona (for fans of Coldplay), and White Denim

  3. and don't forget of course that Fontana and Strange are gearing up for the release of Tech N9ne's new record very soon (with corresponding art and videos courtesy of L9).

Enjoy.
